JEWELRY – BLINGING IN STYLE

by Bridget Allen

If diamonds are a girl’s best friend then jewelry is her soul sister! Jewelry is such a powerful accessory that many choose one fabulous piece and build an outfit around it. You can ruin a perfectly great outfit by wearing the wrong jewelry.

Before we get into what and how to where jewelry there are some no-nos that you should be aware of. Relax – these are too tough to follow!

Don’t overdo it with jewelry. Keep it simple. Wear no more than one big piece such as earrings or necklace.

Don’t wear an ankle bracelet or toe ring with a dressy outfit. It can look trashy.

Limit the number of rings. Wear chunky rings alone.

For after hours events, replace your basic day jewelry with more festive pieces.

Now for the good stuff. Here’s what you can do with jewelry.

It’s takes a confident person to wear bold jewelry. Going bold is great and screams “I’m okay with standing out in the crowd and I want everyone to know it!” What it shouldn’t do is over-accessorize the wrong outfit. Don’t wear prints with big and bold jewelry. Sleek all black or all white are perfect with colorful jewelry.

Learn to mix metals. It’s not taboo to gold with gold and silver. Just remember to keep the style of jewelry the same. Stacking square or round bangles in different shades of gold and silver is fine. You can even layer gold and silver necklaces for a modern look.

Wear the right length necklace. Wearing the wrong necklace can through any outfit out of kilter. Here are some simple guidelines for getting it right. V-neck, boat-neck and off the shoulder tops look great with collar necklaces. Chokers are great with strapless or plunging necklines. The most common length is between 17-19 inches. This can be worn with most necklines except high ones. Plunging necklines look great with a necklace length of 20-24 inches. Very high necklines are perfect for 28-34 inch necklace. This length can also be doubled for a multi-strand look.

Diamond Jewelry

by Rick Kelly

Does anyone ever need a reason to buy diamond jewelry? Of course. There are plenty of reasons: to celebrate...to commemorate...to reward...to romance. Diamond jewelry is the gift for all reasons. But if you're interested in diamond jewelry, the essential four “C's” are important.

The first “C” of purchasing diamond jewelry is color. When applied to diamonds, color is often misunderstood by people outside the diamond industry. Many people think of diamonds as colorless. In reality, truly colorless diamonds are quite rare. Most diamonds used in jewelry are nearly colorless, but still have faint yellow or brown tints. These diamonds fall in the normal color range that will make your diamond jewelry purchase a great investment.

The second “C” to look at when purchasing diamond jewelry, is clarity. Like color, clarity is a key factor in determining a diamond's value. Few things in nature are absolutely perfect. This is as true of diamonds as anything else. Diamonds have internal features called inclusions and surface irregularities, called blemishes. Together, they're called clarity characteristics. Clarity is the relative absence of clarity characteristics. Blemishes include scratches and nicks on a diamond's surface. Inclusions are on the inside (some might break the surface of the stone, but they are still considered inclusions). Sometimes, tiny diamond or other mineral crystals are trapped inside a diamond when it forms. Depending on where they're located, they might still be there after the stone has been cut and polished. Like the rest of the Four Cs , clarity's influence on value is directly related to the concept of rarity. Flawless diamonds are very rare—so rare in fact, that it's possible to spend a lifetime in the jewelry industry without ever seeing one. As you might imagine, flawless diamonds command top prices. Diamond jewelry in the middle price range makes up the bulk of the retail market. That's exactly how clarity works. Sometimes, a diamond can be re-cut or polished to remove a surface blemish without noticeably reducing the stone's weight. This usually increases the diamond's value.

The third “C” to look at is cut. You may think of cut as the shape and style of a polished diamond. But when we talk about cut as a value factor, you're also talking about the proportions , symmetry and finish of a diamond, often called "make" in the diamond trade. A diamond with a "good make" will speak to you. It's bright, fiery, symmetrical, and sparkles with light. What makes cut so difficult to evaluate is that there's more than one way of cutting a diamond to make the most of its optical properties . A well-cut diamond, with well-balanced proportions and high polish, can make light behave in breathtaking ways. The result is a magnificent display of brilliance , dispersion , and scintillation . The three major parts of a polished diamond, top to bottom, are the crown, the girdle, and the pavilion. Some polished diamonds have a very tiny flat facet at the bottom of the pavilion, called the culet. The large flat facet on the top of a polished diamond is called the table. Cutting a diamond to produce the maximum return of light depends on the interrelationship between three critical proportions – table size, crown angle and pavilion depth. These can be combined in many ways to yield equally bright round brilliant cut diamonds for the most exquisite diamond jewelry.

The fourth “ C” has to do with the basic measuring unit of diamonds. Carat weight is simply that. It's how much your diamond weighs. Diamonds are weighed to a thousandth (0.001) of a carat and then rounded to the nearest hundredth, or point. Over a carat, diamond weights are usually expressed in carats and decimals. A 1.03 carat stone, for example, would be described as "one point oh three carats," or "one oh three." A diamond that weighs 0.83 ct. is said to weigh "eighty-three points," or an "eighty-three pointer."

Generally, the more scarce a diamond is, the more it is worth. One carat diamonds are rarer than those under a carat, so they're priced accordingly and worth more in the long run when mounted on diamond jewelry. Purchasing diamond jewelry requires more thought and time than a consumer thinks, but is definitely the purchase that will last you a lifetime.

Man-Made Diamonds, A Buyer's Guide

by Gary La Court

It seems nearly impossible to watch TV or open a newspaper without seeing something about man-made diamonds. For hundreds of years science has tried to create a perfect synthetic diamond. Finally, 21st-century technology has made that prospect a reality.

There are many reasons to purchase synthetic diamonds instead of the mined variety. The prices charged for mined diamonds are, in the very best verbiage, an illusion. To put it more bluntly, Cecil Adams, in his award-winning newspaper column "The Straight Dope" says: "Diamonds are a con, pure and simple." Diamond prices are largely controlled by the DeBeers diamond cartel, and they are not a fair reflection of diamond scarcity. Additionally, studies show that one out of three diamonds sold in the US today has been altered to artificially increase its value. Further studies have shown that on average a couple pays 40% too much for their diamond engagement ring.

Beyond deceptive pricing, there are the issues of "blood diamonds", forced child labor, and a myriad of other disturbing diamond facts.

Recently, socially conscious celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Minnie Driver, and Angelina Jolie have made a vocal issue of wearing only synthetic diamonds to the many gala events they attend.

Good synthetic diamonds are virtually indistinguishable from the mined variety, but without the baggage, and additionally, they cost thousands of dollars less. But, which synthetic diamond is the best choice?

There are many types of man-made or synthetic diamonds available. The choices are numerous, but unbiased information is scarce. Here is an overview and comparison of the synthetic diamonds currently unavailable on the market:

Cubic Zirconia

The grandfather of simulated diamonds, Zircons are available widely. In their best examples, CZ's are actually a fairly decent diamond replica. Unfortunately, the commodity-like availability and vast differences in quality have made the stone synonymous with low-cost fashion jewelry. Perhaps a good choice for cheap bling, but not for fine jewelry. Many sources are available, a decent one is: http://www.czfantasy.com

Russian Diamonds

Including Russian Brilliants, Russian Stars and others, they are in fact nothing but high quality cubic zirconias. This is not mentioned prominently on their web sites and they will only cop to it when pressed, but that is the fact. Russian diamond simulates are priced around $280 per carat.

Russian Diamonds are a fine jewelry selection and are usually mounted in quality precious metal settings.

Russian Brilliants are one of the best and oldest sellers of "Russian Diamonds" available at: http://www.russianbrilliants.net

Moissanite

Moissanite is a lab-created mineral that is a very good diamond stimulant. Moissanite has been on the market as a fine jewelry choice since the early 90s and has picked up quite a few fans. Moissanite is a hard mineral that, like diamond, will cut glass. There are a couple of minor downsides to moissanite however. First, it is quite expensive, (though still cheap compared to diamonds) usually priced about $500 per carat for good samples.

Secondly, moissanite does not have the same optical qualities as diamond and there are several indicators that make them easy to spot with the naked eye for an experienced practitioner. It is difficult to produce a pure white moissanite and they often appear slightly green when viewed in natural light. Also, moissanite has significantly higher radiance and brilliance factors then natural diamond, causing them to appear "too sparkly" to some. Overall though, moissanite is a beautiful synthetic diamond choice.

"Moissanite From the Sky" at http://www.fromthesky.com is a good source of fine moissanite jewelry.

Diamond Nexus

Diamond Nexus gemstones are the result of a fairly new scientific advancement in processing technique, and have only recently been available in the United States.

Diamond Nexus gemstones are excellent diamond stimulants and come very close to matching the properties of mined diamonds at many different comparison points. They cut glass, being virtually identical to diamond on the Mohs (hardness) scale. They refract perfect "hearts and arrows" and have radiance and brilliance readings extremely close to flawless diamond.

Best of all, they are currently introductory priced for the U.S. market, and are a steal at $79 per caret. Diamond Nexus gemstones are only available in precious metal, solid-gold settings.

Diamond Nexus is only available from Diamond Nexus Labs at: http://www.DiamondNexusLabs.com

White Sapphire

Sapphire is the second hardest natural mineral on the Mohs scale, surpassed only by diamond. They are, unlike the others in this review, a natural stone. Their radiance and brilliance are not up to the standards of diamond however. Nevertheless, quality white sapphires priced at around $220 per carat are a good diamond alternative.

A quality source is: http://www.TheNaturalSapphireCompany.com

Gemisis Cultured Diamond

Gemisis diamonds are beautiful and almost perfect diamond replicas. Unfortunately, they are not available in a clear, white color, so they are not a good choice for traditional diamond settings. However, if a yellow, orange or pink diamond is what you crave, Gemisis offers stunning choices in beautiful precious metal, fine-jewelry settings.

Gemisis Cultured Diamonds are only available at: http://www.gemisis.com

Recap:

Synthetic diamonds offer many advantages over the mined variety. You can buy with confidence, knowing that you are getting exactly what you paid for, and have not been the victim of diamond pricing chicanery. If you are concerned with the world around you, you can have a clear conscience, knowing that your money has not contributed to the support of an unethical and abusive industry.

However, there are many choices of synthetic diamonds, with varying degrees of quality. Take a little time to review the seller's information to get a clear idea of what the science is behind the gemstones you are buying.

For my money, I believe the best choices are quality Moissanite stones or the new diamond stimulant gemstones available from Diamond Nexus Labs.

INCREASE YOUR CASUAL WEAR FLAIR

by Bridget Allen

Let’s put a way the flip-flops, pack up our summer shorts and bring out this fall’s newest line of casual wear. In today’s fast paced and changing lifestyle, we women love to dress casual. We want to feel good about ourselves and our femininity and still be able to do everything our lifestyle dictates while looking great.

Casual wear is not just a fad. Women demand chic, sexy styles with that built-in comfort factor with the right flair.

We love being able to just “throw something on” and wear it all day. But before we do that we need to build a core wardrobe of basic items with enough variety to keep from being boring.

To start with there are several color combinations that go well together – khaki, denim, tan and black, khaki, white. Choose cohesive pieces and build around the basic styles.

Casual shoes are also important. Please ladies, no white running shoes. I repeat, NO WHITE RUNNING SHOES! Stick with a pair of boots or sandals.

Match casual wear with casual accessories and handbags. Try to stay away from mixing styles.

Keep your casual clothes pressed and clean. Don’t be lazy and wear wrinkled clothes. That’s not a good look on anyone.

Jeans are the perfect casual pant. Designs and styles may change with the times but the basic jean has been around for awhile. Jeans are fashionable, sexy, and can be dressed up or down for the perfect day or evening!

For those of you who simply must hit the gym, the track suit is the perfect cover up for work-out clothes are just lounging around the house. Many come in luscious fabrics such as velour and velvet. Yum!

This fall, black is the newest trend. If you are looking for a piece that you can wear with everything, choose a little black jacket. They are the perfect accompaniment that comes in luscious fabrics such as velvet, brocade and silk. Some sparkle, like our personalities, and some are come adorned with sexy ribbons and lace. The little black jacket can be worn with jeans, pants or a slim skirt. Perfect for just about any occasion!

Choosing fashions for your personal style and comfort is easy. Fashion is about confidence. If you feel great in an outfit, others will feel your vibes. And if you don’t feel confident, fake it!

A Gem-Wise Guide To Buying a Diamond

by Richard W. Wise

Who doesn't love a diamond? Known as the traditional gemstone for an engagement ring, diamonds have steadily risen in popularity since the early 1940s, when Harry Openheimer the president of the De Beers cartel visited New York to meet with Gerold M. Lauck the president of N.W. Ayer, a leading advertising agency.

The value of diamond sales had declined 50% by the end of World War I and Openheimer was determined to do something about it, Lauck’s suggestion; manufacture a tradition. So successful was the campaign that in 1967 De Beers hired J. Walter Thompson to create a similar “tradition” in Japan, a country with absolutely no history of diamond giving. As a result, today over 90% of all Japanese women receive a diamond engagement ring.

Although everyone loves a diamond, few people know how to wisely choose one when standing at the jewelry counter. Here are five tips on how to buy your perfect diamond:

1. Diamonds are graded using the 4 Cs. Color, Cut, Clarity and Carat weight but they are not of equal importance.

2. Cut is the first C. Very well cut round diamonds are called ideals. Diamonds are cut for weight. They have no color and no nutrititional value. Diamond is all about sparkle. Fine cutting delivers the sparkle.

3. Never buy a clarity grade above VS2. Diamonds are graded using a 10x magnifier. A diamond graded Flawless and one graded SI1 (slightly included) are visually identical. The first and last time you will use magnification is the day you buy the stone.

4. Diamond color is based on tonal variations of the color yellow on a scale of D-Z. There is no A, B, or C. The more yellow the lower the grade. The first four colors D-G show no yellow when viewed face-up. Want to save money? Think about a G.

5. Look for moderate blue flourescence. About 1/3 of all diamond flouresce blue in ultraviolet light. While we can't see unltraviolet we can see its affects. Blue is the complement of yellow. Thus, blue flourescene will cancel out yellow and make the diamond appear whiter and more beautiful as well. A flourescent H may look like a D.

Silicon Bracelets Are Mostly Known Today As Awareness Bracelets

by Susan Smith

Silicon Bracelets are mostly known today as Awareness bracelets.

These bracelets were used by Lance Armstrong and today it gives millions of people to use it as a fashion and also to support their cause.

Silicon is used to make these bracelets. Larger companies make customised silicon bracelets now-a-days and they are becoming increasingly famous.

Breast cancer awareness bracelets are widely used to create awareness among young women about this dreaded cancer. Its a call to all young women to get their endometrial tests done at regular intervals and also to donate funds for this noble cause.

Silicon bracelets are becoming a fashionable fad as well. We see teenagers wearing them to prom as well. Although they are mostly fundraising bracelets their fashionable aspect is not be ignored either.

Silicon bracelets are available in multitues of colors. These are made as custom silicon bracelets. Retail shopkeepers complain that the silicon bracelets market is slowing down but the large manufacturers have picked up the newer trend of custom silicon bracelets.

Custom silicon wristbands are not a bore fundraising thing anymore they are walking billboards.

Custom silicon bracelets are here to stay. The fact that they are increasingly used by large and small companies and organisations clearly illustrates the fact that these bracelets will serve for good.

If you are a bracelet fan then we suggest you to use custom silicon bracelets which will give you a lot more varieties in color and styles.

Silicon bracelets are here to stay and their number is just going to grow from supermarkets to proms and from movies to churches all for varying causes.

Everywhere a different purpose served. Custom silicon bracelets are a way to go.
